For returners we do not expect you to join Archery GB straight away. Indeed you can have up to six sessions at a small cost for each session. We expect that most returners will need three sessions before deciding to join the club and Archery GB (and Welsh Archery / Glamorgan Archery).

Session One – Refresher session
On the refresher session you will be shown the different types of targets that we use in field archery and receive some instruction on how to adapt your shooting form to field archery. The basic form is the same as for target archery but needs to be adapted for shooting in rough terrain.
The coach-led session will vary according to your needs and experience. A typical session will include a discussion with the coach about what you want to achieve in returning to archery and whether your equipment is still suitable – is it safe, correctly set up, of a suitable poundage (eg if you gave up archery because of injury).
We will also discuss safety on the range, including shooting from coloured ground pegs rather than a shooting line.
Session Two – Regaining confidence
After the first session you may with the agreement of the coach decide to join the club. This does not stop you continuing as a Ranger Returner and receive support from the coaching team.
For those who are still getting to grips with field archery the session will be based on shooting at several different targets: discovering the techniques of shooting up and downhill as well as in woodland.
We will also learn about the different distances that we shoot, getting suitable sight marks or the art of string walking.
Session Three – The real thing
At this session we will provide an accompanied experience of shooting a twelve target course which includes all the different elements of field archery and the scoring of roundel targets
