It was a temperamental day in Newport for the Annual Wales Archery Association tournament hosted by Llantarnam Archers. Torrential rain on the M4 didn’t suggest great conditions and during our briefing they even cancelled the inter-counties competition, storm Amy was on the way. The wind was not a significant factor for most of the day and the heavy downpours we did have were brief and conveniently when we were breaking for distance changes.
We were shooting metrics, a metric 3 for Alex and Tony and a metric 5 for Zoe. This was the first time Zoe had shot a metric 5 in full.
Zoe shot great and had at least 5 all gold ends in the final distance and scored a brilliant 1141 which is a new BoG record for metric 5, she took first place in recurve under 14 and junior recurve champion 🏆. Well done Zoey!
The Metric 3 Barebow was a straight shootout between Alex and Tony. It was very close after 50 meters with only 2 points difference in scores. Alex then found his rhythm and finished with 1027, a new BoG club record and first place. Tony received the silver medal with a score of 921.
It was a great day, well organised and another successful outing for the Bowmen of Gower.
